Tariffs will hit grocery stores soon. Southfield Pork is owned by China, if we upset them too much they may ship our pork off shore. Due to climate change beef is already in short supply. These things could really drive prices higher too. If you can buy in bulk at Costco and either can your meat or freeze it before prices skyrocket this could help you.
Buy wide mouth canning jars (2nd hand stores sometimes have them), buy lids then go to Costco to get big bag of UNbleached flour (or rice). Fill cans to the brim, tighten lid and place in 220 degree oven for 3 hours. This will kill any eggs allowing you to use the flour/rice for many years.
I also got a really large bag of sugar(placed it in plastic tub to keep pests out), boxes of cocoa, coffee, TP, detergent, some alcohol and kitty litter before the price hikes. These things can last a long time and saves me the extra tariff cost.
Plant potatoes and seeds now so you have have cheap food later this year. Squash and potatoes can keep throughout fall and winter if kept in a dark, cool place.
Bonus tip to reduce money on buying seeds. If you get squash, peppers, tomatoes, any berries at the store use the seeds for the garden. If you get a pineapple twist the stalk out at the top, then slice it into quarters and plant. You get 4 pineapple plants that should produce 3 pineapples a piece.
During Covid there were shortages of TP so maybe get a cheaper bidet now so you use water to clean yourself. You save money on not buying as much TP later. Plus you have an alternative to clean if we have shortages of paper in the future.
Get a phone or smaller appliances now too because you might not be able to afford one in the near future.
